Tonight, the first candle is lit beginning celebrations around the world to commemorate the rededication of the Jewish temple in 2nd century BCE Jerusalem. Also known as the Festival of Lights, Chanukah celebrates the miracle of a small amount of oil lasting 8 days instead of just one.
