Current heart-attack screening tools may be missing up to half of the people who are actually at risk—even those who later experience their first heart attack.
Mount Sinai researchers found that common calculators like ASCVD and PREVENT often fail to detect hidden risk… and many patients only develop symptoms (like chest pain or shortness of breath) within 48 hours of their heart attack.
The takeaway: it might be time to rethink how we screen for cardiovascular disease — not just relying on risk scores or symptoms, but using imaging to catch silent plaque before it becomes a problem.
