At ConnectWell, I strive to offer sound clinical advice and to educate you on what is actually happening in your body. So often, we hear diagnoses that seem really scary, confusing or overwhelming. Not so easy when you factor in the stress of being you, is it?

When we break those big pieces down into smaller bites of information, we can see the overall view is not as upsetting as it once seemed. When we connect, we feel calm, secure, more capable, and strong. True connection is patient, kind and powerful!

This is a different approach to touch and movement therapy. I work with you over time to make big, complex problems into small, achievable goals — plus, it just feels good!

Together, we will listen, clarify and change for the better. Text me today and let’s get connected!

Have you been diagnosed with a slipped, bulging or herniated disc? The truth is simpler and easier than you might think. Here’s a great little breakdown of what’s really going on, and there’s hope!

I've learned a LOT about pain in the last ten years, and much about back pain, specifically. I will be in my NYC office for 15 days this merry month of May, and the same next month, so if you need an appointment, or a series, schedule it NOW! Also, if you are within 30 miles of Memphis, San Francisco, Sacramento or Fort Myers, I may be able to work you into my schedule. I am also available to give coaching via video chat.

Here are some things I now know, and bring into my practice:

• "The biomedical/biomechanical industry is a multimillion dollar industry that feeds off people's misery."

• The strongest correlation to chronic pain is whether the person believes the pain will persist, with a 22% greater chance.

• "(Persistent) pain is a nervous system problem."

• "You can tell the people in pain because they're the only ones sitting up straight." (i.e. They are rigid in their posture.)

• There are genes for structure (more quickly degenerative) and there are genes for the susceptibility to pain but these two are mutually exclusive.

• Behaviors and responses to pain are taught early on in life. There is a correlation to pain behavior of children taking time off school and later as adults taking time off of work for pain.

• "Pain emerges during rapid transition in life"

• "Obesity correlation to pain is about inflammatory loading."

• "There is no evidence that ergonomics intervention reduces pain"

• "There is no evidence for an ideal posture to reduce or avoid pain"

• "Nerve compression doesn't cause pain. Inflammation causes pain (around the epidural fat and end plate of vertebral body). Sciatica should be treated as a inflammatory disorder, not compressive."

• We are more sensitive around more vital areas. Think neck/head, low back, pelvis during pregnancy.

Many thanks to Peter O'Sullivan for the above points, and Rey Allen for his notes.
