Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone

Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone The Perlmutter Cancer Center is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

At NYU Langone’s Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center, our doctors are leaders in diagnosing and treating people with all types of cancer. Still, we hope for a time when we never have to make another cancer diagnosis, so we also research what causes cancer in hopes of someday eliminating the disease. This approach means that you get expert medical care and the most innovative treatment approaches, as well as access to clinical trials. We understand that living with cancer is more than just a physical challenge and that it affects your family, too. That’s why we offer individual and group support, as well as integrative health services, to help you and your family cope with the emotional and physical challenges that may accompany your diagnosis. In addition to our flagship Manhattan location, Perlmutter Cancer Center has numerous sites throughout New York City and Long Island. Services vary by location but may include infusion treatment, radiation therapy, doctor’s offices, imaging, and our integrative health program. Perlmutter Cancer Center can also offer you access to physicians who are experts in all areas of medicine. From diabetes to back pain, we can help you find an NYU Langone doctor who specializes in any of your other medical needs.

Immunotherapy has transformed cancer care—but researchers are working to make it even more precise and effective.

A team led by Michelle Krogsgaard, PhD, studies how immune cells recognize cancer—and why some tumors escape detection. By identifying new cancer-specific markers and uncovering how tumors hide from the immune system, researchers can help pave the way for safer, more personalized treatments.

Join Karen Sheinkopf, LCSW and Dr. Michael Shusterman to learn ways you can navigate the emotional challenges of life after diagnosis and how to find support, hope and meaning in survivorship. This talk will highlight how to cope with fear of recurrence – focusing on how it can impact your daily life and offering practical strategies to manage uncertainty. They’ll also discuss “scanxiety” — the stress and worry around follow-up scans—and how it can affect your health and well-being, even years after remission.
