The Eye Cancer Foundation

The Eye Cancer Foundation We are a world-class resource for patients and their families diagnosed with ocular tumors, macular degeneration, and related ophthalmic conditions.

Established in 1998 as The EyeCare Foundation, we focused on eye cancer and became The Eye Cancer Foundation. We are an educational and supportive resource for eye cancer patients, their families, and physicians. Our mission is two-fold: one part focused on multi-centered research of new diagnostic treatments for eye cancer research, the other focused on providing much needed patient support services. Our mission is to create a world-class center of excellence for patients and their families diagnosed with ocular tumors, macular degeneration, and related ophthalmic conditions. We want to help you, your children and families around the world.

Every day, patients around the world face life-threatening and sight-threatening eye cancers—but many lack access to early diagnosis, specialist treatment, or trained clinicians who can save their lives.

Your donation to the Eye Cancer Foundation directly supports:
• Training eye cancer specialists in underserved regions, where early detection can mean the difference between saving an eye—or saving a life.
• Funding research that leads to faster, safer, and more effective treatments for conditions like retinoblastoma and ocular melanoma.
• Supporting global outreach programs that bring screening, diagnosis, and treatment to patients who would otherwise go without care.
• Providing patient education and resources that empower families during the most critical moments of their cancer journey.
Your gift doesn’t just support a mission—it gives someone the chance to keep their sight, preserve their future, and survive.

Dr. Emmanuel Orji has recently completed his retinoblastoma fellowship! In regards to his experience at Kenyatta National Hospital under Dr. Kimani, his trainers had this to say:

Dr. Orji was diligent, eager to learn and worked as part of the retinoblastoma team with minimum supervision. He
demonstrated professionalism and empathy towards patients, it was a pleasure working with him over his fellowship period.

Here are a few things captured in his logbook:

1. Clerk and examine patients with retinoblastoma
2. Offer counseling to parents of children with retinoblastoma on genetics and management of retinoblastoma
3. Carry out case based discussions on retinoblastoma
4. Participate in didactic lectures on retinoblastoma
5. Examine patients with retinoblastoma under anaesthesia and accurately grade the patient and eye, as well as formulate a treatment plan for the patients

We at the Kenyatta National Hospital believe Dr. Orji is sufficiently equipped with the necessary skills to manage patients with retinoblastoma at his institution and wish him all the best in his career.
