Lately I’ve been discussing the importance of having function muscle strengthening at the clinic.
Hitting the weights at the gym is for visual appearance, but does little for real life need for muscles. This video is a good demonstration, many body builders struggle carrying the bags of cement. But wait till the end, watch the construction worker lift 4 bags.
Kettlebell workout is the latest thing I’m transitioning to. It’s more functional muscle strengthening. You will feel the impact very quick. I got humbled very quickly with my first time. I can bicep curl 45 lb dumbells. How heavy 40 lb kettlebell would be? Yeah, couldn’t lift it. Had to start with 20 lbs kettlebell. It forced me to use muscles that I don’t use. I’m now at 35 to 40 lb kettlebells.
Kettlebells have transformed my workouts. Last blizzard that dumped 24” of snow. My snowblower handled 3/4 of the snow, but the remaining 1/4 was heavy compacted icy snow. I would always be swore after clearing that much snow in the past. This time, nothing. No soreness at all. My core was bulletproof.
