Yes St Jude’s turns kids away and denies them treatment.
Mine was one of them.
Everytime I mention it my inbox becomes flooded by people who say I am a liar because “st Jude’s cures every child and is free”.

I wish with my whole chest that was true.
I wish every child who heard the word cancer had a place that opened its doors to them.
I wish the way it looks in commercials matched what actually happens but the truth is something I didn’t know until the day it was my baby.

St Jude does not accept every type of childhood cancer.Your child has to have a diagnosis on their specific list and qualify for an open clinical trial. Their own website says patients must be referred by a doctor and must have a disease they treat but Leukemia is the diagnosis St Jude takes in the most. Their amazing Dedication to research on leukemia  has brought it’s survival rate to 94% which is absolutely amazing, but what people don’t see is that leukemia makes up 30% of childhood cancer diagnoses so the other 70% of kids are facing completely different cancers. Cancers that have almost no research or survival rates at all and are denied because of it.

So here we have all these rare cancers… the ones making up the other 70% of ALL DIAGNOSES….. the ones with no updated protocols and barely any research… and these are the families being told no.
My daughter was one of them.

It is not about comparing childhood cancers or deciding who has it worse. As parents we sit shoulder to shoulder in the waiting rooms and when one parent bleeds we all bleed. We carry each other through things most people will never see. But the painful truth is that most childhood cancers have no trials, no breakthroughs, no updated protocols, and no pathway into the systems that do exist. And families end up blindsided when the answer is no because of all the marketing and commercials that make it look like every child is welcomed.

I don’t take lightly what they have done for leukemia and all of the lives they touch every single day.
They are truly amazing.
I just wish all forms of childhood cancer could get the same shot.

*My daughter was accepted by an oncologist at children’s Hospital Los Angeles, who was a childhood cancer parent himself. He decided on a treatment protocol that was 14 different rounds with five different chemos each round at 75% adult strength. She started at 3 months old and I’ll share below her photo today. It took those 3 months of fighting to find him because she was born with cancer and if that doesn’t wake you up I don’t know what does.)
