Happy Thanksgiving! We are immensely grateful for your continued support, and we want to build that momentum until the end of the year. Your donation ensures that everyone in our community gets to enjoy this holiday season instead of having to worry about losing access to essential services. You allow us to do the work we do, and we hope your day is filled with love and joy.

Last Friday, HMH hosted its holiday food pantry, which provides healthy groceries for older adults living in the Smith Houses. 100 volunteers showed up to pack and deliver 400 bags of food to residents’ front doors. From the bustle of boxes being passed around, to the holiday wishes from delighted residents, the day was filled with sounds of joy and collaboration.

Shout out to our volunteers who showed up and showed out! We are grateful you chose to spend your Friday giving back. And thank you to our board members and donors for providing a helping hand.

We are committed to making sure that everyone has access to nutrition and nourishment as the days get shorter and food insecurity is on the rise. If you’re interested in volunteering at our next holiday pantry, please reach out to our Volunteer Director Chris Ho at ChristopherHo@hmhonline.org.

This week, HMH’s Care for Caregivers program celebrated our hardworking yet underrecognized caregivers, who dedicate themselves to supporting others. Our community space was bustling with food, presentations, resources, and complimentary services.

Nutritionist Stella Chan Marinaro shared tips for staying healthy and Yoga instructor Oy Latdawan Chanthawong led the attendees in a relaxing session of “chair yoga,” which we offer bi-weekly at 100 Gold Street for caregivers.

Our partners joined us in offering resources:

Happy Veterans Day from HMH! During our Veterans Appreciation Gala in January of this year, we honored Joseph Szabo with the Distinguished Persons Award, Michelle Lopez with the Community Dedication Award, and Paul A. Kurzman with the Distinguished Service to Country Award. We were grateful to have the opportunity to celebrate and support those who bravely served our country just as we do today.

Our Early Childhood Education students had a wonderful time celebrating Halloween with their teachers and classmates! Starting from their classrooms at 60 Catherine Street, the students paraded to the Smith Houses Community Center at 50 Madison Street where gift bags were set up for them. From there, they headed to our 253 South Street location, where staff were waiting with treats! The day was packed with excitement all thanks to our dedicated ECE staff.

Last Friday, we gathered at our 50 Madison Street community center to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Rich with the sound of national anthems and merengue music, our evening was filled with color and joy. Dancers showed off their moves on stage and welcomed people in the audience to join them. LIFT members shared information about our intergenerational programming for youths and older adults looking to connect.

Want to participate in intergenerational activities like karaoke, pool, and painting or know someone in your life who would benefit from it? Read more about LIFT at hamiltonmadisonhouse.org/older-adult-youth-community-services
