Today, the Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center honors the extraordinary life and legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a tireless advocate for civil rights, economic justice, and human dignity.
For decades, Rev. Jackson challenged systems of inequality and gave voice to communities too often unheard. Through his leadership of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and his historic presidential campaigns, he expanded the national conversation around opportunity, fairness, and inclusion — reminding us all that “I am…somebody” and to “keep hope alive.”
His life’s work reflects the same values that shape the Bowen Center’s commitment not only to access to culturally responsive care, but also to empowerment, compassion, and the unwavering belief that every person deserves dignity and opportunity.
As we continue serving individuals and families through mental health, addiction treatment, and supportive services, we do so inspired by leaders like Rev. Jackson who showed us that advocacy and service must walk hand in hand.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and all those whose lives were touched by his leadership.
May we honor his legacy not only in words…but in action.
