Why you should add some medball training to your life:
🔑Essentially throwing and catching is a version of plyometrics for your upper body.
✅Throwing emphasizes force production qualities. You’re using concentric (shortening) muscle contractions.
✅Catching emphasizes force absorption qualities. You are using isometric (same length) and eccentric (lengthening) muscle contractions.
💁🏻♂️We often introduce catching first to teach hand eye coordination and someone’s ability to absorb forces. It’s kinda like teaching someone how to land before they begin training their jumps.
📈Additionally, Catching allows you to expose your body to higher forces than you can produce.
👉🏼An example of this would be performing depth drops off a 30 inch box for your body to eccentrically absorb when you can only produce a 20 inch jump concentrically.
🔥Added bonus: You can use medballs throws and slams for power production and absorption, or you can use medball tosses and passes for core training in the form of circuits.
