Honored to be presenting with my colleagues, Drs Nimish Mittal and Theoharis Theoharides on Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in March at the Annual AAPM Meeting in Salt Lake City. We will be discussing the diagnosis, the treatment of various symptoms, the role of muscles and the role of mast cells.

I just had a patient ask me how we can determine if nerve pain is coming from the muscles or the nerves? As the patient, it's difficult to tell because nerves enervate the muscles so compression of the nerves near the spine or the muscle tightening the nerves in the same region can create the same pain presentation. We use an instrument to determine if the muscles are the source of pain.

Just because you can't physically see damage to your body in x-rays, MRIs or CT scans....it doesn't mean that your pain isn't real. Muscles are the heaviest organ system by weight and yet we can't see the subtle changes that causes muscle pain.
