Curious about what really happens during a Reiki session? 🌸

During an in-person reiki session, the practitioner will place their hands either on or a few inches away from the client’s body. They will connect to the energy of their clients, help clear blocks, and infuse the body with the energies of love and light.

During a distant session, the practitioner will send these energies through time and space.

You may feel some warmth or coolness, tingling, or simply relaxed. Some people may see some colors or visuals. Regardless of whether you notice sensations or not, trust that reiki is flowing for your highest good. There is no need to get too hung up on these sensations. Everyone is different and every Reiki treatment is different. Additionally, pay attention to how you feel after the Reiki treatment(s). You may sleep better or feel more centered and less triggered. 💫

In the West, people often look to Reiki for results. We might measure the success of a session by the sensations felt, the release of emotions, or the physical improvements noticed afterward. Sessions can be fascinating and even life-changing in this way.

In Japanese Reiki, the focus is more on cultivating presence and inner peace. The goal is often described as anshin ritsumei—a state of being content no matter what life brings. Reiki is not only about what happens during a session but how you live afterward: the peace you carry, the kindness you extend, the calmness of your mind.

Both perspectives remind us that Reiki supports us—whether through immediate shifts or through the gentle unfolding of peace over time.

This past weekend I had the privilege to resit Shinpiden (Reiki 3 Training). Six years after my first Shinpiden, I could approach it with a new perspective, and more curiosities.

The weekend was filled with grounded healing practices that subtly opened us up to the mystery of Reiki. We practiced attunements, chanting, meditation, moving meditation, and hands-on-healing on repeat for three days. 🥰

In true Reiki fashion, there were some signs and synchronicities. I found a red heart shaped crystal in the parking lot.. and stumbled upon a restaurant named Kokoro (heart-mind in Japanese)!

Thank you Nicholas for the amazing research you do and the transformational Shinpiden class that you facilitated. 🙏🏽
