It's my birthday 🙌🏾 and there is greater opportunity for breathing deeper, indulging in gratitude, intention setting, reflection, self-care, and JOY ❤️ Facebook asks to consider a campaign for a non-profit, BUT as I head out to the spa 🛀 I'm remixing a recent IG post a lovely group of birthworkers put together🤩

It's exciting really ❤️🙌🏾 my small team has poured heart and soul into Phase 2 (of a three phase vision) towards building a birth center. We are creating something SO special in ✨✨Maryam Reproductive Health + Wellness ✨ is a project of love; our clinicians and wellness providers deliver high-quality and culturally-competent care for our community. It's an INCREDIBLE blessing to take this journey with a trusted core, a tribe of folks surrounding us, the community uplifting our mission, sprinkled with support from further away places, and an energetic force beyond!

I invite YOU to take part in helping us create a beautiful space worthy of the people we will serve — consider purchasing an item to spruce up our treatment rooms and community space via our Community Baby Registry (bc yo we're birthing something special 😉): Maryam Wish List: bit.ly/MaryamWishList 💕💕💕

If you prefer to give a 501c3 tax deductible contribution to support our thoughtfully curated accessible community programs, please visit bit.ly/Give2Maryam

Let a piece from you be part of Maryam 🙏🏾❣️

What are the foods or recipes you suggest in the first weeks postpartum? What did you want while in this sacred stage of healing and parenthood? Any approaches you have taken for others or personally for yourself which allow for better postpartum nutrition and sustenance?

Parents still turn to old recipes and customs for postpartum recovery.

Interesting analysis by Naomi Bar-Yam on Covid as it relates to perinatal health here in the US. She translates research into beneficial takeaways for families pregnant in these unique times and the future.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected preterm birth rates throughout the world. Why is this the case, and how can this inform future policy?

Our medical system needs improvement and to better address it, we must understand the problem and the history of how America gives birth. This is a big reason why My Loving Doula's main focal point, in addition to providing quality doula care, has become to develop The Birthing Place and advocate to grow better birthing options throughout New York State.

Since the 1920s—and especially after World War II—the regulation and medicalization of childbirth has steered mothers away from midwives to physicians in ho...

Many thanks to those following, amplifying, and supporting our work!!! We have amazing new updates to share, yet for now (drumroll).... 💖 We recently launched a GoFundMe campaign this past Father’s Day!

https://charity.gofundme.com/birthingplacebx

Consider giving in honor of Fathers who have lost loved ones in our maternal health system, who strive to help CHANGE things for the better, while raising their littles. 💖

Consider giving in honor of Communities who experience this level of loss more than others. While they are resilient, and it is a loss of great magnitude, they live beyond the reverberating impact of maternal mortality; they RISE in honor of their Loves. 💖 Or in honor of those with the capacity to willingly and joyfully father children not of their own, who truly give maximum depth of heart as a generously beloved parent 💖

Consider giving in HONOR of a FATHER you know love respect or admire!!! 💖 Or give in honor of a Mother, a person, a family, or community, a cause.

You can support “in memory of” or “a tribute to.” $10 makes a HUGE difference when multiplied by many. And if you can’t give, SHARING goes a long way!!! Let’s be a part of changing 💖

The Jazz Birth Center of Manhattan has officially opened and awaits their first birth. Check out the comments section for more info!

The Jazz Birth Center of Manhattan was born out of an urgent need for low-risk pregnant people to have options outside of giving birth in a hospital.

You may have come across the Op-Ed written by Dr. McClellen in The NY Times, written in response to their article covering home births. With all due respect to the many who choose hospital birth, personally I found the author’s tone on particularly the subject matter of HomeBirth to be patronizing and uninformed. So it was refreshing to read the eloquence in NYC Home Birth Collective’s response 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

A Letter to the Editor of the New York Times regarding the Op-Ed “Don’t Be Afraid of Giving Birth in a New York Hospital.” By the NYC Homebirth Collective May 6, 2020

Game changing info with useful tools! “One of the pelvic floor muscles can extend to 250% of its normal length during your baby’s exit. It actually defies everything we know and understand about how muscles lengthen.” Just one interesting piece of the full article. Read on.. and give care to your pelvic health ✊🏽

A year after I gave birth, both of my knees had given out, and my hips ached constantly, and something just wasn’t right with my va**na. Conventional wisdom would have me feeling stretched out, but as I started to confide in other new moms, I…
