The summer months in New York City offer many pleasurable sights and activities- like this boating scene in Central Park yesterday. Summer also can mean more heat and humidity. The heat waves we have been experiencing bring worsening air quality and air pollution. Asthma and allergy sufferers are most affected so extra care must be taken to ensure you are up to date with your medications, and your indoor environments are kept allergen free as much as possible. Congratulations to Angie, our medical assistant, for running the NY Half Marathon yesterday and raising thousands for charity! The highlights, she said, were running, (amid almost 30,0000 other runners!) across Brooklyn Bridge then through Times Square to Central Park. It takes good preparation, regular training and much support! If you are considering undertaking such a feat, at whatever stage of your life, please consult with your doctors and prepare physically, nutritionally and emotionally.

Glad to see our article published in the Journal of the New York State Academy of Family Physicians about the effects of loneliness on a person’s emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. Are we “diagnosing” the symptoms by asking the relevant questions? “Loneliness is often undetected” and yet is connected to a myriad of health related issues. Today, there are many support groups, centers and resources that can help patients and families find connections. Talking honestly to your family doctor can provide so much assistance.
