Can diet make a difference in hidradenitis suppurativa (HS)?

Emerging research suggests it can. A recent JDD - JDDonline.com review highlights how targeted dietary changes—such as dairy-free, brewer’s yeast–free, Mediterranean, and very-low-calorie ketogenic diets—may help reduce inflammation and improve HS severity.

Are JAK inhibitor responses different across racial groups in dermatology?

New data presented at Skin of Color Update suggest numerical differences in treatment response among Black, White, and Asian patients in atopic dermatitis trials—while vitiligo data showed comparable or even higher response rates in Black patients.

Safety signals remain reassuring, but these findings highlight an important knowledge gap. Are differences biologic, or related to dosing, diagnostic variability, or disease assessment in diverse skin types?

02/10/2026

Vulvar dermatoses remain underdiagnosed and undertreated in women with skin of color, often due to cultural stigma, structural and educational barriers, and gaps in clinical training. Many patients delay care, self-manage symptoms, or face challenges having the severity and quality-of-life impact of their disease fully recognized once they do seek help.

A poster presented at Skin of Color Update explores these barriers—including the role of shame—and calls for a paradigm shift in how dermatology clinicians approach vulvar health in historically marginalized populations. Equitable, culturally informed care is essential to improving outcomes and quality of life.
