I am honored to have been invited to author the chapter on Brainspotting for this utterly massive publication. The project also started in the summer of 2022…. And in the interim Brainspotting evolved so rapidly that I had to rewrite the whole chapter this spring—which means that it includes a full description of Phases 1-5, Intensives, the new Certification standards and process, and up-to-date information about Brainspotting Help as well as the global/international scope of Brainspotting.

The multi-volume Encyclopedia, finally released in July, gives summary, training, certification, and other information about more than 600 healing modalities. It is targeted to mental health providers in the US. The Brainspotting chapter is in Volume 1.

HOWEVER:

I serve on the Supervisory Board of this organization, which began in Poland in response to the waves of Ukrainian refugees at the start of the war, and has expanded to support people in need from natural disasters and human made existential crises.

The sessions provided make use of Brainspotting, which can quickly bring enough internal stabilization for people to begin the longer process of rebuilding their lives.

Well, that was interesting. FB has just "restored" this page, after suspending it yesterday, alleging that it was an impersonation... which seemed to get triggered by me changing the profile photo on my PERSONAL page. When I wrote a post about the situation on my personal page right after requesting a "review" of the suspension on this one... almost immediately, this one got restored.

So, to be perfectly clear: rather than having deleted this page & starting a new one (which seemed silly), I am morphing this page into a very limited blog, since I have retired from practice and almost everything else that I do. I may still start a new page & choose to close this one -- but not today.

The algorithms of the artif*** "intell***" are creating so much unnecessary disruption and havoc with far too many honest people & orgs who do their very best to comply with standards and policies.

In fact, I'm taking a course right now that is coaching me on the use of AI in content creation -- and I'm learning not only how to help AI help me in my work. I'm also really learning its pitfalls and limitations--which imo, are many and vast, and have far too much potential for harm than for help.

It's been a long couple of years with a transition into retirement from practice happening sooner and very differently than I imagined it would. Happily, I'm on the brink of doing some limited teaching again for trained Brainspotting practitioners. The class offerings will be listed through the main Brainspotting website, under the "Trainings" tab. Very excited & focused on what I *can* do these days -- and grateful for all my future students!

Dear Facebook AI trolls— there are *no* policy violations on this page.

I received a notification this morning that an unspecified something on this page has been picked up by Facebook’s AI as being in violation of an unspecified Facebook policy. While AI surely has some beneficial purposes, all I have seen of it this far are egregious mistakes (such as claiming copyright infringement for performances of centuries-dead classical composers, and the current allegation about this page, noted above, etc). For decades, technology has developed much faster than the ethics around it, and AI is a significant example of this.
imo—AI’s capacities are highly overrated, and it’s misuse brings aggrevation at best, and active harm at worst. I realize that AI is here to stay, but surely Facebook and other websites can be more judicious in its use.
