Don't be surprised if one day you're walking along Broadway on Manhattan's Upper West side when a European boutique-styled apothecary nestled in a grand mansion - one you've seen before on the big screen - catches your eye. Given time, it's bound to happen.
Situated outside the “chain-store” box, Apthorp Pharmacy has been serving customers in New York City for over 100 years. Today, the Apthorp Pharmacy is a local landmark, part of the historical Apthorp Mansion, built in 1901. This landmark building has witnessed many new changes through time. Recently, the pharmacy itself was redesigned and updated to meet the needs of modern consumers. Still, be it time or redesign, one thing has remained a constant - Apthorp's dedication to providing its patrons “more than just aspirin” and never losing sight of the fact that they are, first and foremost, a community pharmacy.
Be that as it may, Apthorp is not your “typical pharmacy”. Apthorp is a haven to the world's finest and sought after cosmetics, toiletries and gift items from around the world. On entering the store you'll soon forget where you are. Products found exclusively at high-end department stores fill the aisles. Riguad candles to Mason Pearson hair brushes, Chanel perfumes as well as luxurious creams from Darphin and makeup from T. Le Clerc, to name a few, are all right here.
