Massage therapy has always been a great dream of mine. Helping my clients achieve all those wonderful benefits is truly rewarding. I am honored and grateful for them in believing, trusting, and supporting me for 16 years. They are the reasons I’ve grown and driven into the therapist I am today. May we continue to have that wonderful rapport in the years ahead.

The beauty of massage
Brings relaxation in many ways,
And add special techniques
To relieve those tensions away.

The photo depicts an actual massage session, whether it’s a therapeutic or relaxation massage. The massage therapist grounds themself onto the client’s body. A safe aura forms around them blocking the outside world. Energy transmits from the therapist’s hands to the client. The massage facilitates the body’s natural healing abilities and improves and maintains its overall health.

Ten professional facts about me:

1. I’ve been massaging for over 15 years. I graduated from massage school at the age of 40. Being a massage therapist really changed my life.

2. I specialize in therapeutic work such as Deep Tissue and neuromuscular exercises. The techniques I use are an intense and more thorough treatment for muscle tension and pain management. Working through the pain can get you to your goal of relief. The treatment is done according to your level of tolerance.

3. I prefer Deep Tissue over Swedish. Swedish is more of a general relaxation massage, the kind you often see in advertisements. Swedish is great if you just want to destress, both physically and mentally. The majority of my clients see me for deep tissue. Their sessions are mostly customized to their needs.

4. I do many other modalities including hot stones massage, prenatal and Reflexology. Sports massage classes privileged me with the best continued education which enhanced my therapeutic work. I am always seeking new knowledge. Continued education is also required to sustain our license.

5. Being tall and having large hands is an advantage. Without much leaning, my arms can often reach the client’s shoulder and ankle at the same time.

6. Having my own experiences with past injuries help me understand what most of my clients go through. Sometimes I can feel their pain through it.

7. I listen through my hands. I am severe to profoundly deaf. I communicate through the use of lip reading and hearing aids. Being deaf helps me focus on the most detailed task. The body tissues tell me what to do. While I can’t interpret spoken language, I can work with the sound beats of relaxation music. I just go with the flow of my strokes.

8. Patience is one of my super powers. I am extremely laid back and patient with people.

9. My biggest reward is witnessing how my clients feel after their sessions. I remember the experience of my first massage: immense calm, joy, lightness, like having the ability to float. Nowadays, I go for much needed deep work and my body often feels younger and very energized.

10. Although my job is very physical, I am never ever tired of it. I am extremely thankful, blessed and grateful to be a massage therapist!

One year ago today, I thought it was the end of my massage career when a serious fall left me with a large hematoma and a shoulder dislocation. Making doctor appointments during a pandemic was difficult, but despite delays, I was determined to start treatments to save my shoulder. I had four ligament tears and a partial detachment, yet my orthopedic surgeon sent me to physical therapy instead. It took 12 sessions and daily self-care for me to recover. Self-care methods included exercises taught in PT, self massages, and stretches during morning hot showers. I also continued to see my chiropractor, originally for my lower back issues. After my last spinal adjustment, my arm could finally flex to that 180° goal. My whole progress was slow, but I was able to obtain full range of motion of my left shoulder joint without surgery. I went back to work four months after the incident. Like with any injuries, this is a life-long commitment to preserve the physical health of my body.

Our body is an impressive machine. It can heal quite remarkably from injuries or trauma. Others may be more fragile and take time. A variety of treatments with physical therapy, chiropractic care and / or massages is necessary in order for the body to heal. Sometimes pain can stop a person from trying them, but you have to work through the pain to overcome it. Recovery is only possible if you truly COMMIT to your rehabilitation.

Having gone through my own experiences with back, neck and shoulder problems, I can relate to the some of the same issues my clients face. When they see me and hear my story, it gives them hope. Hope allows us to push forward.

Today marks the 15th Anniversary of the day I started my first job doing massage therapy. I remember the day like it was yesterday. I had five clients back to back. My first client’s name was April. It was her first massage. We were both nervous but it was an amazing first session for the two of us. In the beginning, I was astonished by what it entails to be a massage therapist. I learned a lot in the very first year: the hard work, the fun, the positive feedbacks, as well as the trails and the tribulations. Back in 2003, when my oldest daughter and I were looking at colleges for her and flipping through brochures, it was when I stumbled upon a page of the Massage Therapy Program at Queensborough Community College that I set upon on myself one of my most adventurous path to a life fulfilling career. Despite my hearing disability, I excelled well in my academics and most profoundly, in my massage work. My strength is being able to focus on the most detailed of tasks. My reward is knowing that my clients benefited so much. My goal is to make their next session better than the last. My joy is having them stay with me throughout the whole 15 years.

As we reflect back on this rough year and all that we’ve endured, we have to be grateful for all the good things we still have in our life: our family, our happiness and our health. While life may not get easier, remember that hard times often make us stronger. “Strength doesn’t come from what you know you can do, but from overcoming the things you thought you couldn’t.”

May the year 2021 lead you to a brighter and healthier journey of a new growth, a new joy and wonderful new opportunities!

Dear clients,

Hope you are all well and happy now that the pandemic lockdown has been lifted. We will soon be entering Phrase 3 in July when licensed massage therapists will be allowed to return to work. While COVID-19 is still present in our community, new standards and guidelines for massage therapy have been adjusted by the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) to protect you and me.

Some of the changes in the policies and procedures for massage therapy relating to COVID-19 safety are as followed:

Booking an Appointment:
When booking a massage appointment via text messages, please state clearly the type and duration of the massage session that you want. I will be doing a pre-session screening to ensure that you are able to receive a massage. Any new health issues need to be updated. If you have any underlying conditions, consult with your doctor first before booking an appointment.

Pre-session Screening:
Three basic but very important questions will be inquired the day before the session. This is to confirm that you are in good health.

1. Have you experienced any cold or flu-like symptoms in the last 14 days or has a health professional asked you to self-isolate in the last 14 days?
2. Have you been in close contact with someone experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms or have you cared for someone testing positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days?
3. Have you been tested for COVID-19 in the last 14 days, and if yes, what was the result?

These questions are necessary for every appointment booked. Once the pandemic is over, consultations are subjected to change.

Arrival Procedures:
When you arrive for your massage session, we will follow a strict protocol to ensure our safety. Text messages will be exchanged to announce your arrival. I will come retrieve you and take you directly to the session room. For mobile work, I will do likewise. A proper face mask must be worn prior to your arrival and you will clean your hands with an alcohol-based sanitizer.

COVID-19 Release Form:
All clients must sign a COVID-19 Release Form. I will ask you if you have any symptoms of illness including a cough or digestive issues. If you have a fever or symptoms, we will reschedule your massage to a later date.

Massage session:
Removing all jewelry is highly recommended as they can harbor viruses and bacterium. It may be a better idea to leave them at home. We will both be wearing face masks during the duration of the session. You may choose pillow case option when lying prone. No face massages will be allowed at this time.

Conversations:
Talking will be limited to only conversation necessary. Please note that with my hearing impairment, you may have to distance yourself and remove your mask briefly to communicate with me. Texting me is fine. Your understanding and patience on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Buffer time between sessions:
Buffer time is now 30 minutes to give me ample time to deep clean the room with enhanced sanitization.

Late Cancellations:
Cancellation fees will be wavered for clients who suddenly feel ill. Please text me if you are unwell and need to cancel your appointment.

Follow-ups:
Every licensed massage therapist practice Universal Precaution in every massage sessions. Therefore, receiving a massage is always safe as long as we both follow the proper safety guidelines. If you develop symptoms of any illness or test positive for COVID-19 within two weeks of your session, please inform me immediately. We will follow up with each other as to when you may return for a massage again.

Starting July 6, I will be doing Reflexology sessions only for the month of July. Reflexology is a type of massage that involves applying special techniques and different amounts of pressure to the feet. It’s based on a theory that these foot reflexes are connected to certain organs and body systems. This modality offers a range of health benefits.

I will start taking appointments for full body massages effective on August 1, 2020. Please feel free to email or text me with any questions or concerns.

Our safety is always a priority. We will work together to assure that you will be comfortable and content while receiving the wonderful benefits of massage therapy. Looking forward to see you all again!

Be well,
Jackie

Hello everyone,
I hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. The COVID-19 pandemic has surely changed our lives so unexpectedly and swiftly. March and April were very difficult months as many lives were lost and many are still fighting. I, myself have lost a very special friend. My heart goes out to their family and friends.

I want to thank all the health professionals, essential workers, and the volunteers who serve those in need, for working so tirelessly and compassionately through these challenging times. We are truly grateful.

As we cope with the devastating effects of this virus, I hope that this health crisis has taught us a new understanding and appreciation of life. I hope that it will guide us to a better role in this tough world.

Let’s all be positive and look forward to a future of many blessings and good health.

Jackie🌹
