We’re proud to share that the Seleni Institute has earned Candid’s () 2026 Platinum Seal of Transparency—the highest level of recognition.
As a nonprofit, this distinction reflects our commitment to accountability, measurable impact, and advancing women’s mental health across every stage of reproductive life.
Pregnancy doesn’t always feel the way you expect it to. For some, it brings excitement. For others, it brings fear, overwhelm, and uncertainty, especially when the path forward feels hazy.
At 38, Kristy was navigating a twin pregnancy after years of living with endometriosis. The emotional weight felt like too much to carry alone.
Her husband found the Seleni Institute and made an appointment for her. At first, she was hesitant. But stepping into Seleni’s warm, supportive space made it easier to open up.
Working with a Seleni therapist gave Kristy the space to process her feelings without judgment or pressure—and move forward in a way that felt right for her.
“My therapist simply let me talk. She made me feel safe and reassured me that anything I said or felt was okay and normal. I said all the scary things that had been running through my mind, and she wasn’t shocked or offended—she was understanding.”
If you’re navigating fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, or loss, you don’t have to do it alone.

Meet Patricia Harteneck, Senior Licensed Psychologist at the Seleni Institute.
Have you ever noticed your mind repeating the same negative thought patterns?
Patricia works with individuals navigating chronic stress, depression, anxiety, infertility, pregnancy loss, postpartum changes, and perimenopause. In therapy, she helps people explore not only their emotions and behaviors, but also the mental habits that shape how we experience our lives.
Our thought patterns can become automatic — and sometimes even addictive. Becoming aware of those patterns is often the first step toward meaningful change.

Pregnancy after loss can change how someone experiences pregnancy. It isn’t a “fresh start”—it’s a continuation of a story that includes grief.
During Pregnancy After Loss Awareness Month, we recognize the emotional complexity many parents navigate, holding hope for new life while remembering the baby they lost.
If you or someone you love is pregnant after loss, know that you are not alone. 🫶🏼

Eight months after giving birth to her third child, Danielle M., LCSW, PMH-C, experienced life-threatening medical complications following a routine procedure that resulted in an emergency hysterectomy. Her journey to motherhood had already included infertility and loss. And then, without warning, her childbearing years were devastatingly and traumatically cut short.
Years later, while enrolling in Seleni’s Perinatal Loss & Grief training (https://seleni.mykajabi.com/perinatal-loss-and-grief), Danielle realized she had never fully processed the grief and trauma of her own experience.
"It was then and there that I decided to seek my own therapy at the Seleni Institute. My life has forever changed."
Today, she shares how healing reshaped both her life and her work supporting women throughout their reproductive journeys. 💙

💙 Women are twice as likely as men to experience depression.
💙 1 in 5 women experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder.
💙 Nearly 75% of those who need maternal mental health care never receive it.
These numbers represent real lives: clinicians showing up, professionals challenging norms, moms demanding support, leaders pushing for change.
We see you.
We support you.
We’re building alongside you.
To the clinicians, advocates, students, mothers, daughters, caregivers, and leaders shaping the future of women’s health: Happy International Women’s Day.

When clinicians deepen their training, families feel the difference.
Take it from Haley: a Seleni student, birth doula, and Certified Lactation Counselor who is providing compassionate, evidence-based support to families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
We’re proud to train providers who are expanding their capacity to care for individuals navigating infertility, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, grief, and major life transitions.
Mental health is maternal health. Families deserve clinicians who are prepared, skilled, and grounded in evidence-based care. 💙

At the Seleni Institute, we believe advancing mental healthcare depends on a strong dialogue between research and clinical practice.
We’re proud to share that Christiane Manzella, PhD, will be attending the 2026 Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC) Annual Conference: ADEC at 50.
A longtime member of Association for Death Education and Counseling since her doctoral training, Dr. Manzella has presented for more than a decade on perinatal grief, reproductive loss, trauma, neurobiology, and complicated grief, and has served on the Board while mentoring the next generation of professionals in the field.

The Seleni Institute is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2011 to destigmatize and transform mental health and wellness by addressing real-life issues that challenge the emotional health of women, men, and their families.
Our Mission
We treat, train, support, and advocate to improve the emotional health of individuals and their families during the family-building years.
Our Vision
We envision a world where emotional health is valued just as much as physical health.
The Issues
There is a gap in knowledge and understanding of emotional health and its impact on individuals and their families, which often results in mental health challenges going under-diagnosed and under-treated.
There is also a stigma that surrounds mental health, preventing people from seeking the support they may need.
We see an opportunity to close this gap, break the stigma, and change the way we view and treat emotional health to improve the lives of our generation and of those to come.
