Serves more than 12 million people in New York City; on Long Island; in Rockland and Westchester counties; at the U.S. We respond to approximately seven emergencies and disasters a day across the region—home fires, floods, building collapses—and more, providing shelter, food, clothing and emotional support at no cost to those in need. We also collect blood, teach lifesaving skills, and support military members, veterans and their families.

Today at the 2026 , our incredible Team Red Cross runners are hitting the streets of with purpose, resilience, and heart.
Each mile they run carries a story of service, of family, of overcoming challenges, of community, and of a mission that changes lives every day.

From supporting disaster relief and military families, to championing blood donation, public health, and emergency readiness, every one of our runners brings something powerful to the emblem they proudly carry today.

This morning, they’re running for the families who need comfort after a fire…
For the volunteers who show up when disaster strikes…
For the patients whose lives depend on blood donors…
For the communities that count on preparedness, compassion, and hope.

To Andrew, Brian, Jaimie, Kajal, Kelly, and Megan, and all the supporters cheering them on, thank you for carrying the Red Cross mission with strength, passion, and heart.

Be Prepared. Stay Safe.
On Monday, March 23 at 10:00 AM, over at the Pavilion at the Smithtown Landing, 495 Landing Ave., the NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program will host a free training session to help Smithtown residents learn how to prepare for emergencies and protect their families.
With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it is more important than ever that residents are prepared for emergencies. The NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program will be hosting a free training session to help Smithtown residents learn how to prepare for disasters and protect their families.
This training will provide an introduction to responding to both natural and man-made disasters. Participants will learn how to develop a family emergency plan, prepare emergency supplies, and take steps to respond and recover safely during a crisis.
Each family that attends will receive a free emergency preparedness kit. The American Red Cross in Greater New York will also be on-site offering free smoke detector installations for residents who need them!
