In early November, we honored extraordinary women who serve our country and our local communities like Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton at the NYC Women’s Veterans Grove in Central Park.
Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton represents New York’s 23rd District and serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs. Her commitment to military families is deeply personal—her husband is a U.S. Army combat veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan, and she experienced firsthand the challenges of military life as a young mother during his deployments. In office, she has championed legislation to support veterans, including expanding tuition assistance, improving maternal healthcare for veteran families, and requiring state agencies to appoint veterans’ liaisons. Her leadership reflects a strong dedication to honoring and improving the lives of those who have served. Senator Scarcella-Spanton continues to advocate for policies that strengthen support systems for veterans and military-connected communities across New York.
