American Red Cross in Greater New York

American Red Cross in Greater New York The official page for the American Red Cross Greater New York Region. Emergencies call 1-877-REDCROSS Military Academy at West Point; and in Greenwich, Conn.

Serves more than 12 million people in New York City; on Long Island; in Rockland and Westchester counties; at the U.S. We respond to approximately seven emergencies and disasters a day across the region—home fires, floods, building collapses—and more, providing shelter, food, clothing and emotional support at no cost to those in need. We also collect blood, teach lifesaving skills, and support military members, veterans and their families.

Overnight, Long Island Disaster Action Team volunteers - Jim Quent, Deitra Brock, Ruthven Hoyte - responded to a devastating house fire in Northport.

Thankfully, no one was injured — but the family escaped with only the clothes they were wearing. Our Red Cross team was there on the scene to provide immediate comfort and support, and our caseworkers will continue helping them as they begin their recovery.

When disaster strikes, our volunteers show up — day or night — to support neighbors facing their toughest moments. ⛑️

Thank you to our incredible DAT members for always answering the call.

March is both Red Cross Month and Women’s History Month—making it the perfect time to celebrate the women who lead with courage, clarity, and compassion.

This month, we’re honoring our Red Cross Sheroes, including Katie Hill, whose service reflects what it truly means to show up for others in moments of uncertainty.

👉 “Being a Red Crosser means stepping into uncertainty and helping bring steadiness when people need it most.”

Women like Katie embody the heart of the Red Cross mission and the lasting impact women have always had in humanitarian work. This month, we celebrate their leadership, service, and strength. ❤️

In the lead up to the Ruby Red & White Ball, we’re honored to highlight our Humanitarian Award Honoree, Giovanna Miller.

✨ Honoring a Champion for Humanity
For more than 15 years, Giovanna has been a driving force behind the mission. As board chair of the Metro New York North Chapter for seven years, she helped raise nearly $18 million and led transformative initiatives that strengthened services across the region.
Her leadership of the PreResponder campaign, her steadfast support of military families, and her service on national committees reflect a deep and enduring commitment to humanitarian action. A proud Tiffany Circle member, she continues to inspire through her generosity, vision, and dedication to others.

We are proud to celebrate Giovanna’s lasting impact at the Ruby Red & White Ball on April 25, 2026.
