American Red Cross in Greater New York

American Red Cross in Greater New York The official page for the American Red Cross Greater New York Region. Emergencies call 1-877-REDCROSS Military Academy at West Point; and in Greenwich, Conn.

Serves more than 12 million people in New York City; on Long Island; in Rockland and Westchester counties; at the U.S. We respond to approximately seven emergencies and disasters a day across the region—home fires, floods, building collapses—and more, providing shelter, food, clothing and emotional support at no cost to those in need. We also collect blood, teach lifesaving skills, and support military members, veterans and their families.

Thanksgiving is the number one day of the year for home cooking fires in the U.S., and leaving food unattended is the leading cause. According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking accounts for 80% of Thanksgiving Day home fires and 40% of related injuries.
That’s why the American Red Cross is encouraging people to take steps to prevent home fires and learn lifesaving skills that can make a critical difference when seconds count. ⬇️

In early November, we honored extraordinary women who serve our country and our local communities like Michelle DellaFave at the NYC Women’s Veterans Grove in Central Park.
Michelle DellaFave rose to fame in the late 1960s as a performer on The Dean Martin Show and as a member of The Golddiggers and The Dingaling Sisters. She appeared on major television programs and in the film Annie, showcasing her talents to national audiences. From 2007 to 2009, she toured as part of the musical duo “Blue Eyed Soul featuring Michelle DellaFave and Lindsay Bloom,” performing for veterans, active-duty service members, and at VA hospitals. She continues to entertain veteran audiences at New York City venues alongside her musical director, Richie Vitale. Michelle remains dedicated to uplifting those who have served through music and live performance.
