Starting 7/20/16 at Battery Dance. This class emphasizes core strength and cardiovascular fitness to development a body that functions optimally while enhancing one's natural physique. Incorporating static and dynamic warm-up movements, hatha-based yoga, Pilates-based exercises, multi-planar full-body strengthening exercises, and active isolated stretching techniques, participants will develop balance, flexibility, and core-based strength while improving their aerobic and anaerobic fitness. Suitable for all abilities and fitness levels, this high-energy class is a healthy, fun, and challenging approach to achieving a superb physique and superior level of fitness. Pricing:

About the Instructor:
Alison Cook-Beatty began her dance studies in Connecticut and earned a BFA in Dance at The Boston Conservatory (Summa Cum Laude) under the direction of Yasuko Tokunaga, where she was awarded the Ruth Sandholm Scholarship Award and the Jan Veen Scholarship. Upon moving to New York City, Alison worked with choreographers Val Suarez, Milton Myers, Kristen Mangione, and Gabriola Polar (former Executive Director of Jose Limon Dance Company). Alison then became a member of the highly acclaimed Taylor 2 Dance Company, performing and teaching throughout the United States and internationally from 2002-2008, performing two seasons at The Joyce Theater, at City Center Theater, and touring in Mexico, Poland, Canada, and Germany. Within that time, Alison also performed with The Paul Taylor Dance Company at City Center Theater, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, The Hollywood Bowl, and traveling internationally to Chile. She also performed at BAM and Lincoln Center Out of Doors with David Dorfman Dance and with Infinity Dance Theater, performing at The Very Special Arts Festival at The Kennedy Center. Alison has worked with choreographers Naomi Goldberg Haas, Seth Gertsacov's Ballet Verite, Trainor Dance, C. Eule Dance, The Amy Marshall Dance Company, Exit 12 Dance Company and Ballet Theater, The Carolina Ballet Theater, Brian Carey Chung's Body Dance Collective, Buglisi Dance Theater (Table of Silence Project), as well as Zvidance. Alison enjoys teaching dance to people of all ages and abilities, and has been on faculty at Longrea Dance Academy, Dance In Grandma's Attic, Carolina Ballet Theater's Summer Works, and NYC Parks and Recreation, among others. Cook is very active in dance modeling, working with such photographers as Lois Greenfield and Paul B. Goode in addition to dance publications. In 2010 Alison choreographed Pelican Dream on the dancers of Carolina Ballet Theater and her work was presented at The Peace Center in Greenville, SC. In 2012 Alison founded Alison Cook Beatty Dance. The company has toured and performed in NY, CT, NJ, CA, VT, MA, RI, and Washington D.C. Cook-Beatty's work has been commissioned by such professional companies and universities such as Ballet Next, having her work TINTINNABULI premiere at The Joyce Theater, The Boston Conservatory, Columbia Ballet Collaborative, The Joffrey Ballet School, Opera Dolche, and Fort Hamilton High School. She has been awarded the 2013 Best Choreography Award from SJDanceCo in SanJose, CA, grants from the Caroline Newman Scholarship, among others. Alison’s approach to fitness is grounded in her background and training in dance combined with her experience in numerous styles of exercises and approaches to physical well-being.
