Long transition gap help. I am looking for some advice for this transition. Basically we are joining two different units that have different flooring. The gap is about 5 inches, but is only the width of a doorway. We also don’t have access to the flooring from either side of the transition.

Need help opinions from concrete pros. Let's call him "The Contractor" he is building up the forms to get it prepared for concrete. I notice that he is leaving wood spikes on the interior side of form, meaning they will be covered by the pour of concrete. Also these spikes are up against the wood form so once concrete is poured and forms removed after curing the edge finish will most certainly have those spike there. I told him immediately to remove the spikes. I was 100% really disturbed with this idea he had explained to me why he would leave them in the pour. I told him "hell no! remove it now". The wood will decay leave a void. WTF! this should of been the first and final sign to call OFF the job and fire him because what transpired after( during and after the pour) had me already questioning the decision to hire him.

So the truck shows up and he is already complaining with the concrete delivery stating he asked for an extension so that the pour can reach the site from the street. Well that led to him having to borrow MY wheelbarrow. Imagine if i did not have one available for him. Also let me add that he is working alone with NO helper. Now it is 2PM he is going back and forth with wheelbarrow pouring into site. Even has the concrete delivery guy helping him with the wheelbarrow back and forth. Now all the concrete has been poured and now i see that he has the concrete delivery guy helping him screed the pour but the screeding ended somewhere half way and the remaining clump waiting to get screeded is just sitting there (time is ticking concrete is going to set) Im already pacing (praying to the concrete GODS to please make sure this job gets done right) I keep dropping in on him telling him about this clump is going to set on him. Im already getting P'd off. He then asks me if I can help him screed parts of the pour. Im like lets screed this whole thing what are you waiting for??? He is starting to edge the area where he was screeding in the beginning and troweling to start a finishing process. Im here thinking all the youtobe vids i see of people doing concrete work are screeding the whole thing first then workng on edging finishing. Also during this whole progress he is wetting the concrete with the water hose to prolong the work time with it. But im thinking when is the amount of water you throw at it becomes too much because he was doing it often. He claims the concrete came to him not as wet, a bit dryish. Now it is 6pm HE IS STILL working on the concrete tryng to finish areas that are kinda already set. I can tell this is a 100% failure of job. Its 8pm he is still working on finishing it. He is also Broom finishing on areas that are not even trowel finished smooth flat there are holes and dips. This is already getting ridiculous. I will add pics so you can see his excellent craftsmanship. But after when he was all done I was out there letting him have it about the outcome. He says he will be bcak the next day (today as I am writing) to fix all the holes and bad surface areas with some sandymix to get it looking better. Im already preparing for a no payment situation and letting him sledge hammer the job so he can feel better. Because I cant accept this end result. What say you what do you think of the results of this finish. These pics were taken this morning after it was done the day before.

Project Needs. Preface: I know little to nothing about carpentry. These are my neighbors stairs but the company that did them wants 3K to do them. What tools would I need to make stairs like this. Specifically the rounded edges and the indentation on the railing. I have the basics: circular saw, drill, miter saw, sander. What else do I need and any advice you have that would make it easier?

Rate this job? I’m interested in concrete now, and it’s fine it’s weirdly entertaining. Got me thinking about a 35x12 patio I had put in on my old home. They were supposed to be the best in town and have plenty of good looking work for stamped concrete and complex pours, but I felt like some things were missed on my install.

I’d appreciate any insight to the quality of this work so I can make sure I choose a good contractor in the future on a different home.

These pictures were taken the day of install and after a quick soak from the garden hose. The brush and framing of the patio was pretty good in my opinion, however:

A short list of facts

Price was about $12/sqft

Patio was anchored into the foundation

Rebar reinforced, just don’t have a picture of that step

No expansion joint against the foundation

No expansion joints around the desk posts

Quick lurking on this sub tells me that the last two bullet points in my list are no-no’s that the contractor should have done correctly. I brought it up when I went to check while they were pouring and I he reassured to me they didn’t need to put in any expansion joints.

Thoughts?

What could I have done better? What’s good about what I did? I’m a landscape contractor, don’t do much concrete except for posts in this case we were building a patio, and had to demo an old concrete one. Long story short the old concrete patio had degraded brackets sunk in it which supported degrading posts of a deck. We jacked up the deck, removed all the concrete and brackets and posts, and replaced with new posts, brackets on adjustable pier blocks, and poured new footers around the brackets/pier blocks.

I’d love input & advice from other professionals. The finish isn’t excellent, the level of one footer is slightly lower than the new patio pavers (had to adjust level from the old concrete patio), and mostly I wish we’d put the footers two inches lower so we could have set the pavers over them to hide the concrete.

How do I repair this leaky water line? I am wondering how complex of a fix this is or if I need to hire a plumber which I feel is what I need to do. The cold water line that feeds the bathroom has a leak at the top of the T connection. The pipes are threaded with an elbow in the room above and the photo is from below in the living room. The top of the T is behind the vanity, wall open, and easily accessible. The bottom of the T is behind an open wall and also easily accessible. The middle part of the T is fed under the subfloor with many inches of mortar which is what scares me and why I'm leaning going the plumber route but luckily that part is not what's leaking, just the top.

Can I unscrew the top brass pipe from the bathroom and reinstall a new piece with tape and dope or is this more complicated ? I am hoping I won't have to rip out my bathroom tile to replace those water lines.

How would you finish these steps? I’m building (DIYer) cascading steps that match the outside 45 degree corners on my deck. I have 2 more steps to go. Ride is 6” run is 10.5”. How would you tackle the last 2 steps?

Thoughts on this spray foam job? I’m not an insulation expert but this home has a very moldy ceiling and I figured it’s because the attic has no ventilation.
