The Y T I is a fantastic prehab exercise to make sure your shoulders stay nice and healthy as you work them in heavier pressing and pulling movements (think: bench press, chin ups). They can also help alleviate that feeling of "tightness" in your neck and upper back you get after leaning over a computer all day.

If that's not enough to entice you, know this: healthy shoulders allow you to build a *stronger* bench press, and who doesn't love pressing heavy weights?

Give them a go and let me know what you think!

I recommend doing them unweighted for 2 sets of 8-12 reps and then adding weight very slowly over time in that same rep range. If you can do 2 good sets of 12 with 15 lb dumbbells, you're very strong in this movement and likely have happy, healthy shoulders.

Also . . . yes, I'm aware that my hair has a mind of its own.

Hi!

I created a free training program.

Well . . . Kind of.

I created a template so you can design your OWN training program that fits your needs, preferences, and equipment availability.

If you've never followed a structured training program, I highly recommend you go to the article (check the comments for a link), download the files, and watch this video to help you get started.

If you have any questions, let me know in the comments! And if you do fill out the template, send me a pic so I can cyber high-five you!

Love,
Daniel

I'm not a huge fan of "challenges" or "fixes," and I figured I could continue to grip about them, or I could explain why they're an issue and gives some clear instructions on what to focus on instead.

Curious to know more? This is about a 3 minute read and will hopefully change the way you think about fitness:

It’s January, and I’m sure you’ve seen the advertising: “21 Day Fix!” “30 Day Shred!” Or maybe it’s something more along the lines of, “January Reset!” or “10 Weeks to A New You!” . . . This is a formula that has been marketed to people who want to change their health, physiq...

Thoughts while doing the resistance band program I created for gym closures:

"How fun to be working out with my dad!"

"Wow, you really can get a good workout in with these things!"

*post-squats, when we still had some arm work to do . . .*

"Dad ( ), I think you should consider firing your trainer . . ."

Day 10: The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019)

I missed this in theaters despite having heard it was good. It wasn’t in theaters long.

That’s a shame, as I think it was one of the best movies of last year. It’s certainly my favorite movie I’ve seen this year.

This was writer/director ‘s first feature, which is pretty upsetting . . . It feels as though a dude just walked onto a basketball court, picked up a ball for the first time, and went toe-to-toe with Damian Lillard. No one should be this good in their debut feature.

He had help, though, as he collaborated with lead actor (also in his first feature and giving a beautifully natural performance) to tell Jimmie’s real-life story. - who’s a force of nature - apparently took on a leadership role in the cast and his influence extends beyond his own performance (check out Joe Talbot’s interview on podcast to learn all about it).

I’ve actually already recommended this movie to my friend who reported back: “I’m in tears. Beautiful. Charming. Real . . . Deeply moved. And the music was stunning, too! Beautiful soundtrack.”

Be like David. Watch this movie.

And there’s good news on that front: you can stream this movie FOR FREE if you have Amazon Prime. Otherwise, it’s $3.99 to rent.

This is the last of my arbitrary 10 movies I’m talking about to , and it’s a very small contribution. I’ll do more. Lots of it won’t be on Instagram, but if I do see a useful way to contribute on social media, you’ll see it here.

Tired of push ups?

Me, too!!

Try these to shake things up.

If you don't have your pushup fundamentals down, check a couple months back on my feed for a video covering those.

Have fun, and stay safe!

We're so excited for you to see our work.

We're even more excited to show solidarity with and respect for those fighting for their lives right now by postponing the release of our next episode.

To all of our brothers and sisters of color: we see you. We support you. We love you.

Black lives matter.

And, just to be clear: I say "we" because the work of many wonderful artists went into this episode, but clearly this is my (Daniel's) Instagram page. I don't want anyone reading this to think I'm distancing myself from those words, so on behalf of just me:

I see you. I hear you. I support you. I love you. I'm sorry.

Black lives matter.
