In many communities, stigma prevents people from seeking help for substance use disorder.
“In our community, stigma keeps people trapped long before the disease of addiction ever does,” said Curtis Jarrett , Hope Works Certified Recovery Specialist. “The Life Unites Us grant will give Hope Works the ability to educate, bring honest conversations into the open, and create pathways to help without fear or shame. This funding is not just about awareness—it’s about hope, healing, and saving lives.”
Hope Works, a faith-based organization in Uniontown serving Fayette County and the Mon Valley, is expanding its Open Doors to MAT program through our Life Unites Us Community Award grant.
The program works to reduce stigma around medication-assisted treatment (MAT), which uses medications along with counseling and recovery supports to treat substance use disorder and support recovery.
Outreach events will engage landlords, workplace allies, clergy members, and other community partners to reduce stigma and increase understanding of recovery supports and local resources.
To date, Life Unites Us has supported 19 organizations across Pennsylvania, investing nearly $380,000 in community-led stigma reduction efforts.
