This patient thought she got a burn from her EKG but it was contact dermatitis. acrylates are adhesive chemicals found in EKG leads, press on nails, acrylic nails and gel manicures. They are a common cause of contact dermatitis usually around the nails but also in patients who wear adhesive products. If any concerns, see your dermatologist and consider patch allergy testing. Bruising seems to be a major complaint after a filler treatment- even with a perfectly performed procedure. To minimize this issue direct pressure should be applied to the site immediately after injection. Ice packs can also be utilized to encourage vasoconstriction and reduce bruising. More post procedure tips to minimize brusing include applying topical arnica gel, avoiding blood thinners and keeping the head elevated for 24 hours after treatment. In addition to these tips, what I find the most impactful is my great team of assistants working witb me to prevent bruising.

Pillows are an underated part of the medical exam. At , We choose the finest pillows that enhance the exam and the experience. All I know is when you put your chin up for the eye exam, you don’t dare move. As a dermatologist, I am a little jealous of my ophthalmologist.

An infected finger aka paronychia is an infection of the skin surrounding the fingernail or toenail. It is usually caused by something sliding underneath the nail plate though I have seen it after manicures or in people who bite their nails. It can get quite painful as the skin can only swell so much. In this case, the patient was moving and the edge of cardboard box got under the nail. This person grew group B strep which can be aggressive. Sometimes the best treatment is surgical.

tetracycline, doxycycline and minocycline are widely used for acne but are typically avoided for patients under age 12 by dermatologists although some pediatricians say avoid under age 8.
