Keloid is a chronic skin disorder, that can present itself either as a single small spot on the skin or appear as multiple lesions spread across several areas of the body.

In some patients, keloid lesions can grow to form a large skin tumor. Keloid has a genetic component and often runs in families. If someone is predisposed to the condition, a keloid appears only after an injury to the skin, which can happen in myriad ways such as ear piercing, acne, surgery, chicken-pox, etc.

A vast majority of patients arrive at the Keloid Treatment Center after years of mistreatment of their condition because of not going to a Keloid Specialist in time. By then their keloids have worsened, require longer and more intensive treatment than if they had visited earlier. The ear is a common location for development of keloids. Piercing of the ear is by far the most common triggering factor for development of ear keloids.
