HOPE Center Harlem

HOPE Center Harlem The HOPE (Healing On Purpose and Evolving) provides free mental health resources to the Harlem & FCBC community, and beyond.

The HOPE (Healing On Purpose and Evolving) Center is the manifestation of our Senior Pastor, Michael A. Walrond, Jr’s vision to provide free mental health resources to the First Corinthian Baptist Church community, and Harlem community at large. This healing space provides therapeutic services through licensed clinicians, who support, respect, and respond to the individual’s power to create the life they desire. Through individual, couple’s, and group guidance we companion with persons to balance, wellness, and wholeness. Our HOPE Innovators are persons who make healing a lifestyle. Our innovators courageously transform their lives through building an alliance with licensed clinicians, and applying the tools gained to their day to day living. This therapeutic alliance enables each HOPE Innovator to sift through the shadows of their current narratives, and simultaneously develop a narrative that speaks to the essence of who and what they are, whole, complete, and lacking nothing. Our mental health professionals utilize evidenced based therapeutic modalities to support a variety of daily living challenges ranging from depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, to sexual abuse and domestic violence, as well as bereavement and marriage/family guidance. We look forward to journeying with you! For more information please email info@hopecenterharlem.org

Holidays are great reminders to spend quality time with the people who mean most to us. Love comes in many forms – partners, family, friends – consider celebrating any or all of them this year.

Whatever you decide to do – whether it’s a fancy meal out, a romantic comedy marathon, binge-watching sports or a baking day – focus on acknowledging all the things you’re grateful for. Practicing gratitude is linked to improved wellbeing and life satisfaction. It can be as simple as, “I’m grateful to have a family to celebrate with;” “I’m grateful to be healthy and able enough to bake these treats;” or “I’m grateful to be so loved by my friends that they want to spend this holiday with me.”

We hope you enjoy a stress-free and memorable Valentine’s Day

The HOPE Center is partnering with EMBRACE - a 5-session, culturally based therapeutic program designed to empower African American youth and their caregivers to confront racial stress and trauma together. Using evidence-based practices and culturally grounded theories, clinicians guide families in exploring racial encounters, coping with discrimination, and building stronger communication and connection.

Dr. King spoke often about the importance of love, inner peace, and community support as foundations for lasting social change. Today, his legacy calls us not only to fight for equality in our laws and institutions, but also to create spaces where healing, rest, and emotional wellness are accessible to all. In honoring Dr. King, we commit to breaking the stigma around mental health, encouraging open conversations, and ensuring that compassion extends to both our communities and ourselves. 🧡

BIG NEWS for Harlem NYC & Mental Health

Last week we received a check that will help power a Mobile Mental Health Unit and it means everything for our community.

Mental health care shouldn’t depend on a zip code, a schedule, or the ability to travel. This mobile unit brings support directly to our village of Harlem meeting New Yorkers where they are with compassion, dignity, and real help.

In a city that never sleeps, too many people struggle in silence. This investment says loudly: mental health matters in NYC. From youth to seniors, access saves lives, strengthens families, and builds healthier neighborhoods.

Grateful. Energized. Ready to roll.
Let’s keep breaking the stigma and expanding access because when our minds are healthy, our city is stronger.

Last week , , , and hosted the Photography Exhibition Party. It was an amazing event celebrating the work of photographers who just completed a 10 week program learning how to use photography as a creative outlet for mental health. This year, the party was held . We are so grateful for the amazing opportunity to share the work of these artists with the public. If you get a chance, see the work in the hotel’s lounge area. The exhibit will be up until the end of the year.

In honor of Gratitude Awareness Month 🍂, here’s a reminder from Oprah:
“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
Gratitude is a practice, not a perfection. Even in hard times, taking a moment to notice the small things we do have can shift our perspective and support our mental wellness. Start with one thing today that you’re grateful for and see how it changes your day 💛.
