Dan Bloom, JD, LCSW

Dan Bloom, JD, LCSW I am a psychotherapist and clinical trainer. Visit my website to learn more about me.

In therapy you will gain awareness of valuable ways to approach situations with new insight. Therapy will help you be able distinguish between what you think, perceive and feel that is specific to the actual current situation and what colors or distorts it from your unaware past experiences. The benefit of this kind of understanding brings lasting change long after the therapy is over. I bring my insight and understanding of the therapy process into the therapy relationship so that in the comfort of my office you will feel safe to explore your feelings with me and achieve your own insights as quickly as possible. The analytical skills I learned as a lawyer combined with the intuitive sensitivity I gained as a therapist enable me to help you with both precision empathy.

The New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy's December 17th monthly meeting will feature Perry Klepner's presentation, "Reading Gestalt Therapy: Excitement and Growth in the Human Personalty."

Some of you may know that the Perls, Hefferline, and Goodman's book has been the core of how GT has been studied, taught, and practiced at the NYIGT.

Here is an excerpt from our announcement:

"Description:

Gestalt Therapy: Excitement and Growth in the Human Personality by Perls, Hefferline, and Goodman (PHG) is a complicated historical document holding the richness of the novel thinking of its time and, importantly, the genius of its authors. PHG now 70 years forward is widely recognized as Gestalt therapy’s founding text. Since the first coherent presentation in 1951, practitioners have been evaluating, clarifying, redefining, and expanding upon the details of its theory and practice. It has been read, cited, criticized, and acclaimed. It has provided fertile ground for questioning ideas, learning, and impetus for new theory and practice.
In this workshop, I will discuss PHG as a comprehensive presentation of Gestalt therapy theory and practice. I will explore its value as a formative text for new and experienced practitioners, provide a brief sampling of its ideas, share my experience reading PHG line by line in an experiential group, and discuss aesthetic and hermeneutic perspectives and critical comments. Didactic and experiment segments will be included.
Having the PHG text available during the event may be helpful for reference.

This is a description of one of the webinars I am offering this fall.

"Introduction to Phenomenology for Gestalt Therapists

This 8-session, 90 minute webinar begins with the premise that gestalt therapy is a clinical phenomenology. To fully grasp the depth – and power – of this assumption, the webinar explores the relevance of selected major Western phenomenologiststo gestalt therapy’s clinical practice.

The webinar introduces some of the ideas of Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, Levinas, and Waldenfels to show how each is reflected in our own clinical phenomenology – a relational and field-emergent approach. Readings include original sources in phenomenology and in gestalt therapy. The webinar consistently focuses on concrete and practical clinical work.

The fee is $650.00 Each meeting is recorded for future viewing.
The webinar will start in October or November. Contact me now. Space is limited.

I am organizing my 6th webinar on phenomenology and gestalt therapy. This is the general announcement:

Introduction to Phenomenology for Gestalt Therapists

This 8-session, 90-minute webinar introduces major phenomenologists who are directly relevant to our contemporary practice— Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, Levinas and Waldenfels.
I stress their significance to contemporary gestalt therapy — and how each is reflected in the historical developments of gestalt therapy’s approaches from the one-person to the field-emergent models.
How phenomenology applies to our actual clinical work is an essential part of this webinar. Members are encouraged to bring clinical examples into the discussion. The online seminar is both didactic and interactive.
I dedicate a section of my website for the webinar. I encourage people to post questions and to engage in discussions on its message board.
Readings are posted on a dedicated document page and are downloadable. Each meeting is recorded for future viewing.
The fee is $600 USD. Contact me at dan.bloom@me.com if you are interested. Information about me is on my website, www.danbloomnyc.com.
