My Pretty Pippy Girl 🤍
Actually Pippy wasn’t mine at all, but the last two months she was the center of our world. Pippy had a freak accident in November that left her with a fractured pelvis — an injury that is often a death sentence for a horse. But she was young, and she had fight in her.
In January, Kyle and I stepped in and began caring for her while my mom was unwell. I remember telling Kyle very clearly, “I can’t give up on her.” So we didn’t. Morning and night we showed up for her. And if we couldn’t be there, our friend Anne stepped in to help.
Pippy quickly became part of our rhythm. A sweet, funny mare with her ears always forward to greet you. Most days she was happy and pain-free… and I’m pretty sure she mostly knew me as the “treat lady.”
Unfortunately this weekend she went down again on her injured side.
Dr. Barnes from Waln Ridge Veterinary came out, just as he has throughout this entire process, always guiding us and advocating for Pippy. I also reached out to Lauren from VIBE Therapeutics hoping to give Pippy even more support. Lauren came out on a Sunday for a horse she had never met before, bringing compassion, knowledge, and so much care. 🤍
But as the day went on, it became clear that Pippy was in pain. And as Dr. Barnes gently said, “We have to call it, kid.”
So we made the hardest decision we could for her.
Pippy was surrounded by love — and plenty of her favorite treats — in her final moments.
Thank you to everyone who showed up for her and for us: Dr. Barnes, Lauren, Bo, Anne, and my husband Kyle.
The farm is quiet again. It once thrived with 19 horses, and now we’re down to our last one. Watching something you once loved so much slowly fade like that is incredibly hard. But through it all, Kyle and I have always just tried to do what we believe is right.
We gave her every chance we could.
Run free now, pretty girl. You gave us everything you had. 🤍
