Investing in lifesaving skills for mothers and newborns.

Health Builders is currently conducting a Master Trainer program on Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) and Helping Babies Survive (HBS).

A total of 22 maternity in-charges from 17 health facilities, including Rwamagana Level-Two Teaching Hospital, are participating in this Training of Trainers, designed to strengthen their ability to respond to life-threatening maternal and newborn complications.

Unlike traditional classroom learning, the program focuses on hands-on simulations and emergency drills with anatomical models. Through repeated practice, participants build real clinical confidence and rapid-response skills needed during real-life obstetric and neonatal emergencies.

By training healthcare providers to become mentors and trainers themselves, this program creates a lasting chain of impact, strengthening care across health centers and hospitals.

Every skill practiced today could mean a life saved tomorrow.

When women lead, health systems thrive.

Across Rwanda, women are driving transformative change in healthcare, from community health workers in villages to midwives saving lives in health facilities.

Through training and mentorship, Health Builders is strengthening the skills, confidence, and leadership of women like Julienne and Beatha, ensuring better care for mothers, newborns, and entire communities.

This Women’s Month, we celebrate the women building stronger, more resilient health systems every day.

What does dignity in health care look like?

At Mwulire Health Center, it means mothers accessing ultrasound services close to home. It means patients no longer wait days for referrals. It means health workers equipped to serve their communities with compassion.

On World Day of the Sick, we reflect on how strong primary health care systems restore dignity and bring quality care closer to rural families.

As we reflect on Rwanda’s Heroes Day, we honor everyday heroes saving lives in communities across the country.

For Health Builders, those heroes are our Community Health Workers (CHWs). They are the backbone of rural health care, and their impact is huge: screening thousands for disease, educating families, and easing the burden on crowded clinics.

On a day dedicated to celebrating courage, service, and sacrifice, these CHWs remind us that heroism often looks like showing up again and again for your neighbors.
