Precision Neuroscience’s Craig Mermel is the latest guest on The Healthcare Theory Podcast—and the conversation is a fascinating look at how cutting-edge tech is reshaping medicine.

Craig shares his journey from MD-PhD training at Harvard University during the early genomics revolution—where he worked at the intersection of biology and computation — to leading AI-driven cancer research at Google and contributing to health innovations like Apple Watch. A key theme: biology is increasingly becoming a data problem. That mindset ultimately led him to Precision Neuroscience — a tech company on a mission to transform how we interface with the brain.

In this episode, Craig unpacks what brain-computer interfaces actually are, the tradeoffs between different technical approaches, and why perfect neural data isn’t required to drive meaningful outcomes. If you’re interested in neurotech, and where AI, neuroscience, and real-world impact collide, this is worth a listen.

Every thought you have — a memory, an idea, a moment of inspiration — creates a real electrical signal in the brain.

At Precision Neuroscience, we’re developing a next-generation brain-computer interface designed to capture that activity directly at its source. By translating neural signals into a digital pathway, we aim to decode what those signals mean and connect them to computers, phones, and other digital devices.

This will enable thought-driven interaction with digital tools, opening new possibilities for the millions of people living with severe neurological conditions.
