This is precisely why antemortem rabies tests like Dyne RAPID Latex Agglutination Rabies Antemortem Test need to be allowed in Canada, to allow for safe fostering of wildlife.

It’s aleady happening that we are getting tagged and messaged but can’t help. Things are going to get worse then ever before .
It's incredibly frustrating that there is such a lack of support for animal rescue and rehabilitation in Quebec. Jean-Yves Lemay and I seemed we were the only ones available to help last year, and now he is left to handle the entire western Quebec area alone. I am unable to assist due to my recent surgery, and I have another major surgery coming up. It breaks my heart knowing that so many animals will suffer and die without proper care. Quebec desperately needs more resources and support for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. We need more wildlife rehabilitation centres and more dedicated rescuers to ensure the safety and well-being of our wildlife.

Important information about wildlife rescuing: In Quebec you don’t need a licence to do the actual rescuing. Yes, you can help an injured animal, but you must immediately contact an authorized rehabilitator, as it is generally illegal to keep or care for wildlife yourself in Quebec. Prioritize safety: do not handle animals directly, wear gloves, and place them in a secure box while waiting for instructions from the Gouvernement du Québec or a rehabber.
Key Guidelines for Rescuing Wildlife in Quebec:
Report First: For many species, especially if injured, you should report the animal to wildlife protection officers (1-877-346-6763).
Safety & Handling: Never handle animals with bare hands. Use gloves and place the animal in a dark, quiet, and warm, ventilated box.
Do Not Feed: Do not give food or water to an injured animal, as this can cause further harm.
Transportation: Only transport the animal to a licensed rehabilitation center, such as the SPCA de Montréal or UQROP for birds of prey.

Quick note: please don’t try and rescue any wild animals if you don’t have experience. Without proper experience you can very quickly be injured.

Please join this Zoom 8am EST December 10 to learn more about the cruel RAIDER test for rabies. This test is invasive, and not Point of Care, involving drilling into the animal’s skull and inserting a straw so fluids from the brain can be put onto a test. This is ridiculous as saliva can be used for testing, without harming the animal.

Reliable rabies diagnosis is essential for effective surveillance and timely public health action, yet access to confirmatory testing remains limited in many settings. Lateral flow devices (LFDs) — rapid, point-of-care tests — can support rabies detection in animals where laboratory capacity is ...

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has proposed changes to how it responds to Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in farmed deer and elk.

The proposed changes will move away from mandatory herd destruction and toward a regional, management-focused approach to control disease spread. The new proposed CWD control program will recognize regional variability in CWD status for the purposes of CWD risk management.

Under the new proposed program, the CFIA will not order the destruction of CWD-infected herds in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba -- provinces in which the disease is considered to be established or emerging.
