Curry Leaves Powder (Karuveppilai Podi) – A simple homemade blend full of flavor 🌿

Bring a traditional touch to your meals with this easy and aromatic curry leaves powder. It’s a great way to add natural taste and variety to everyday food.



🌿 Ingredients:
• 1 cup curry leaves (washed, dried, lightly roasted)
• 2 tbsp urad dal
• 1 tbsp chana dal
• 5–6 dry red chilies (adjust to taste)
• ½ tsp black pepper
• ½ tsp cumin seeds
• 1 tsp coriander seeds
• Small piece tamarind (optional)
• ¼ tsp hing (asafoetida)
• Salt as needed
• 1 tsp oil



🥣 How to Make:

1. Prepare the curry leaves
• Rinse and dry the leaves well.
• Dry roast on low heat until they turn crisp. Set aside.

2. Roast the spices
• Heat oil in a pan.
• Add urad dal, chana dal, coriander seeds, cumin, black pepper, and red chilies.
• Roast until lightly golden and fragrant.

3. Blend everything
• Let all ingredients cool completely.
• Add curry leaves, hing, tamarind, and salt.
• Grind into a slightly coarse powder for best texture.

4. Store properly
• Transfer to an airtight container.
• Best used within 2–3 weeks for freshness.

• Mix with warm rice and a little ghee
• Sprinkle over dosa or idli
• Add to curd rice or stir-fried veggies for extra flavor
