What a day with our incredible dental community! 💙🧡💚🦷

Pre-dental students, dental students, residents, hygienists, dental assistants, and dentist volunteers came together to deliver oral health education and dental screenings to nearly 1,200 K–8 students across 8 school sites in NYC.

Phase I treatment is done while a child still has baby teeth and early permanent teeth.

The goal is not perfect straight teeth yet — it’s to:

✔ guide jaw growth

✔ create space for incoming permanent teeth

✔ correct harmful habits like thumbsucking

✔ reduce the risk of more complex problems later

⏰ Best timing for Phase 1:

➡️ Ages 6–9

👶 Common reasons a child may need Phase I:

✔ Severe crowding or blocked-out teeth

✔ Underbite, crossbite, or very narrow upper jaw

✔ Protruding front teeth (high trauma risk)

✔ Early or late loss of baby teeth

✔ Thumb-sucking or oral habits affecting bite

✔ Facial or jaw asymmetry
