This past Friday, PCCS celebrated Professional Development Day at the College of Staten Island.

We kicked off the day with breakfast, connection, and check-in, giving everyone a chance to settle in, reconnect, and start the day energized. The morning continued with a warm welcome and opening talk, which set the tone by outlining the day’s goals, highlighting key focus areas, and grounding us in our shared purpose.

The first round of breakout sessions gave staff the opportunity to dive into meaningful, choice-based learning. Topics ranged from strengthening partnerships with families and circles of support, to proactively preventing “quiet dropout” by re-engaging team members, to exploring the DSP Career Ladder and pathways for growth and impact within the field.

Dedicated time allowed teams across Self-Direction, Support Departments, and Traditional Programs to reflect on their work, review data, and align on priorities moving forward—turning ideas into actionable next steps.

We then moved into the second round of workshops, focusing on leading through change, building and maintaining team morale, and creating meaningful recognition practices that truly motivate and support staff. The continuation of the DSP Career Ladder session further emphasized growth, opportunity, and long-term impact.

The day wrapped with a close-out session led by cRis marchioNNe, where we reflected on key takeaways, shared insights, and looked ahead to the 2026 learning pathway.

From start to finish, the day was filled with collaboration, thoughtful conversation, and a shared commitment to strengthening teams and the people we support.

If you see us walking out… just know a boundary was crossed.

Words matter, inclusion isn’t optional and accessibility should never be an afterthought.

A compilation video showing multiple people standing up from a desk and storming off. On-screen text appears in each clip with statements: “when someone says individual instead of person supported,” “when disabled voices aren’t included in decision making,” “when accessibility is treated like an afterthought,” and “when you have to explain why inclusion actually matters…again.”

Fun in the sun! ☀️

The Day Habilitation program had their first Field Day of 2026, learning and playing sports like football and soccer. Not only that, but training their agility as well!

The team at did a great job taking people supported through the drills, and letting fun lead the way for the day.

High-rollers! 🎲💵

Here’s a snapshot of the Casino Party event that PCCS’ Day Habilitation program held recently. Staff assisted people supported in learning how to play games like Blackjack and Roulette.

Staff also used this as an opportunity to help people supported manage their fake money during a game like this, counting how much money was being spent and the amount that was offered up to the “house”.

Happy International Day of Happiness! 🙂

Celebrated each year on March 20th, International Day of Happiness was established to recognize happiness and well-being as universal human goals. It’s more than just a feel-good moment—it’s a global call to action to create a more inclusive, equitable, and connected world where people can truly thrive.

Knowing that this is the perfect day to do so, we went to PCCS’ Day Habilitation program to find out exactly what people we support are happy about!
