🌿 Eat Healthier, Exercise More: Live an Optimal Life!

On September 9th, our BCHN team hosted another “Eat Healthier, Exercise More: Live an Optimal Life!” session with a community walk from Montefiore Family Health Center to Poe Park. Led by Health Educator Pedro Gonzalez, participants enjoyed movement, connection, and a wellness discussion on nutrition and physical activity. Let's not forget to mention all participants were given Health Bucks – $2 coupons provided by the NYC Health Department to encourage the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables at the Poe Park GreenMarket.

👉 Want to join the next Farmers Market Walk? Check out our Calendar here: https://www.bchnhealth.org/events/ or contact Pedro Gonzalez at pgonzalez@bchnhealth.org for more information.

Remember--small steps lead to lasting change! 💚

Every June, we take time to recognize Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month—a moment to reflect on the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. With millions of people affected worldwide, this month is about more than awareness; it’s a call to action. From early detection to caregiver support, it’s an opportunity to educate ourselves and others on how we can make a difference.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a time dedicated to breaking the stigma, raising awareness, and encouraging open conversations about mental well-being. It’s a powerful reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health—and that seeking help, support, and self-care is a sign of strength, not weakness.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of early detection, prevention, and treatment of colorectal cancer. This month, we encourage everyone to learn about the risk factors, signs, and symptoms of this disease, which affects both men and women and is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. Regular screenings, especially for those aged 45 and older, can significantly reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer and improve survival rates if caught early. This month is an opportunity to share vital information, support those affected, and continue the fight to reduce the impact of colorectal cancer on our communities. Together, we can spread awareness and encourage others to take charge of their health.

February is Heart Health Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of heart health and the steps we can take to reduce the risk of heart disease. This month, we educate ourselves on healthy lifestyle choices, such as eating a balanced diet, staying active, managing stress, and getting regular check-ups. By making informed decisions, we can protect our hearts and live longer, healthier lives. This month serves as a reminder to prioritize cardiovascular health for us and our loved ones.
